Product Details

Quaternium-15  a quaternary ammonium-based compound, is widely used as a preservative and antibacterial agent in cosmetics, personal care items including shampoos and body lotions, as well as industrial formulations. It inhibits microbial proliferation by slowly releasing formaldehyde, thereby extending product shelf life.

Exhibiting broad-spectrum activity against bacteria, fungi and yeast, it remains a cost-effective preservative choice. However, its safety profile has raised concerns regarding skin sensitization risks and formaldehyde emissions. In the European Union, its usage concentration is limited to no more than 0.2% under restrictions set by Cosmetic Directive 76/768/EEC.

Its molecular structure, featuring a quaternary nitrogen atom and chlorallyl group, endows the substance with both cationic surfactant features and sustained-release biocidal performance.
