Zeolite refers to a broad group of framework-structured minerals mainly made of aluminosilicate, which exist in both natural and synthetic forms. Around 40 natural zeolite species have been identified worldwide so far, alongside more than 150 synthetic varieties. Most zeolites are light gray, while certain types take on a flesh-red hue due to embedded mineral impurities.
Zeolites feel noticeably lighter than common rocks when handled, owing to their highly porous internal structure featuring an extensive network of tiny pores and channels—far more complex than honeycomb structures. This porous characteristic endows zeolites with remarkable adsorption and ion-exchange properties, leading to their widespread use in water purification, gas separation, catalysis, and agricultural sectors.
