N,N-Dimethyl-p-toluidine is a colorless to pale yellow oily liquid with an odor reminiscent of rotten eggs. It has a melting point of 130.31 °C, a boiling point ranging from 211.5 °C to 212.5 °C, a room-temperature density of 0.9287–0.9366 g/mL, and a refractive index of 1.5360–1.5470. Insoluble in water yet soluble in certain organic solvents, this compound decomposes under light exposure. It serves as an efficient photoinitiator for acrylonitrile (AN) polymerization and is also employed in manufacturing self-curing dental trays.

N,N-Dimethyl-p-toluidine acts as an efficient photoinitiator for acrylonitrile (AN) polymerization. The polymerization rate is proportional to the 1.62-th power of AN concentration and the 0.62-th power of DMT concentration. This compound is widely utilized as a polymerization accelerator. Furthermore, it can function as an additive in the synthesis of unsaturated polyester resins and adhesives.
